Title of Bulletin Board: Be Water Safe

Category: Water Safety

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: Blue & white background paper, paper "water drop" messages, summertime accents

Sending the kids off 3 months of summer break leaves staff concerned about water safety issues. This 5' wide board has tips both for pool usage and for open-water safety. The background is layered with blue and white papers cut into waves, reusing the back of last month's background paper. A banner reading "Be Water Safe" and 6 water-drop-shaped safety messages were printed using Microsoft Publisher, then cut and mounted on colored construction paper.

The 6 messages printed are:

Only swim when an adult is watching.
Tie back long hair to avoid getting caught in the drain.
Never push or jump on other swimmers.
Know how deep the water is BEFORE you get in.
ALWAYS wear a life jacket when you are on or near open water.
Learn how to swim, float, tread water, and get out.
A water safety handout printed in English & Spanish from is made available, and more of last month's paper was recycled into a bright summer sun.

Very useful. We made ours the same and it only took an hour. The water safety handout is a good idea too.
