PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Jogging Club

Category: Physical Activities

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: Green background paper. Bulletin board border. Calender. Handouts. Colored cardboard paper. Pictures of jogging shoes or people enjoying jogging.

This bulletin board serves the purpose of recruiting members and highlighting the jogging club at an elementary school. The bulletin board includes a calender that describes when the club meets (Monday before school, Friday after school, etc.) This bulletin board also has a spot to reward an individual as the "jogger of the week". The jogging club increases students cardiorespiratory fitness and endurance. However, it teaches much more than how to get in shape. The jogging club stresses the importance of safety while running, eating healthy foods, and proper stretching before and after jogging. The club is meant to give students an opportunity to bond with teachers and their peers before school in a physical activity. The bulletin board also list upcoming road races and physical activity events such as bike races and swim meets.

Since our school is from K-4 we also include the total miles ran per grade level as well as the top runner for the month.

We started a runners club at my previous school, expecting 20 to 30 students to participate,we had over 150 students. We took them to the childrens " marathon " in Houston,Texas.
Texas Childrens Hospital was our sponsor !
