PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Turkeys in Training

Category: Holiday-Thanksgiving

Suggested Grade Level: K-2

Materials: Blue butcher paper, Leaf border, turkey, jumprope, student work, poem

I wanted to cross the curriculum and have the 2nd grade students do a writing assignment connected to P.E. The second grade teachers in my school were so wonderful to help with this writing process. The students were asked to write about how a turkey could use fitness concepts learned in P.E. to work out and avoid the fear of being a Thanksgiving dinner. I placed the stories on the bulletin board and in the hallway.

What a great idea! I am currently looking at doing some writing in my Physical Education class as well. Do you think that you could substitute Cupid for a Valentines Theme. (Cupid needing to get in shape Valentines; his arms need to get strong for shooting his arrow; or how can he best aim his arrow for a direct hit?) Thanks for sharing this creative idea!
