Title of Bulletin Board: Summer Fun and Literacy

Category: Integration

Suggested Grade Level: K-2

Materials: Markers

Description:

The purpose behind the bulletin board was allowing to kids shine for all the activities they do, as well as support literacy. At the beginning of the year, I have all the students (2nd-5th) write what active things they did over the summer. For second grade, they just had to write words and their names. For the older grades, I had them write sentences. I placed papers with active words beside the bulletin board, such as played basketball and swim. I told the students to look at the papers if they needed help spelling words. It always impresses the principal when you show them you are supporting literacy. I placed markers on the ground near the bulletin board and had the students do an activity. When they saw a marker was not being used, they could run over and write on the board.
