PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Elf Healthy Habits

Category: Holiday-Christmas/Winter

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: Poster of Elf, pictures of clips from "Elf", cut-outs of letters, healthy habits, boarder, bulletin board paper

At our school we focus on 5-2-1-0 to remember healthy habits related to activity and nutrition (5 fruits and veggies each day, 2 or less hours of screen time per day, 1 or more hours of physical activity per day, and 0 sugary drinks per day). We typically talk a lot about healthy choices we can make at home while away over the holidays. This bulletin board helps convey the message of healthy choices using a character that kids can easily remember. I pulled some memorable scenes and changed the quotes a bit to fit with the 5210 message, as well as putting up gift boxes with healthy choices for them to remember. The students get a big laugh out of the "cotton-headed ninny muggins" but tend to pay more attention to it because of that.

Included scenes with adjusted quotes:
- 4 main food groups scene: The four main food groups are NOT candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup.
- Planned day on etch-a-sketch scene: I planned out our whole day. First, we'll make snow angels for 2 hours, and then we'll go ice skating, and then we'll eat fruit cups as fast as we can, and then to finish, we'll snuggle.
- Office scene: Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite vegetable?
- Smiling scene: I just like to run, running's my favorite.
- Coffee shop scene: You did it! Congratulations! 60 minutes of physical activity every day! Great job everybody!
