Title of Bulletin Board: Why exercise?

Category: Motivation

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: crayons, bulletin board paper, markers

"Why exercise" was placed in a highly-trafficked hallway near the gym where classes on their way to other parts of the school frequently wait. My hope is that students will spend their time waiting reading why they should exercise- as a motivator to include more exercise in each day. The alien (traced onto bulletin board paper with a document camera) asks two children (also traced) why "Earth kids" love to exercise. They respond with a number of excellent reasons to exercise in their shared speech bubble which says:

it helps us concentrate.
it makes us feel energetic and happy.
it makes our brains work better and I can pay attention in school better.
it builds strong muscles.
it helps us sleep better.
it is good for our hearts.
it develops motor skills we can use in play, games and sports.
it builds strong bones and joints.
it keeps us fit.
it is FUN.
