PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: What is PE? and the Skills that We Work On!

Category: Physical Education

Suggested Grade Level: K-5

Materials: paper, construction paper, border, yarn

Some of my classes think physical education is only about playing games. Even after we would do an entire class of activities based on skills or sports such as basketball skills or jump rope tricks many would ask "are we going to play a game?" I wanted to help them understand that physical education has many parts-not just playing games. I designed this board to show six areas that we focus on in our classes and some samples of those areas. I printed each of the words from my computer, mounted and laminated them, and connected them with yarn. I use this to show what area of the lesson we are covering.

Don't cringe, Keith. Dodging and the overhand throw are legit standards and when you let the kids decide if they want to dodge a ball being thrown at them, 99% will still want to engage. Those who choose not to can have an alternative activity. Twenty eight years now...I know teaching and learning. When then right approach is initiated, the expected outcome will prevail.
Much success to you.

Great bulletin board! I do have to admit to cringing when I saw dodge ball, however.
