Title of Bulletin Board: What's on Your Plate?

Category: Nutrition

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: Scissors, paper, paper plates, food or other magazines, markers, glue or tape


Each student was asked to design a good meal plan for one day that targeted all the essential components of good nutrition, including "My Plate", portion sizes, variety, etc. There was a plate each for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In addition, on their paper, students chose different prompts to write about, such as "describe some activities you could do to get exercise, explain where and with who you could exercise, health and nutrition tips, etc.

Additional Information:

Several students told me they actually thought about the material and content while they were having meals, and talked to their parents about maybe having a more nutritious diet and overall lifestyle.
