PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Family Fitness Wall of Fame

Category: Family Fitness

Suggested Grade Level: K-12

Materials: student submissions of pictures or drawings of themselves being physically active

This bulletin board displays photos of students' physical activity with their families. Students were able to submit hard copy pictures or draw a picture of them exercising with their families. They needed to include a written description of their activity as well.

The purpose was to promote family physical activity in our community. Literacy was integrated by having students write a few sentences about their picture of activity.

I created a template for the submissions. At the top I had a description of what to submit. Example: "Does your family exercise or play together? Mr. Smith wants you to share it with the school! Write a description of what your family does together. Some examples are: taking walks, riding bikes, going to the gym, playing catch. You can also draw or turn in a picture of your family doing the activity to go with your description. Put your drawing or picture in the top box (#1). Write your description in the bottom box (#2). Please put your name and teacher on the BACK and turn in to Mr Smith."

Below that were two large boxes, one for the picture or drawing, and the bottom for the written description. Hard copies were available at our Curriculum Night. The template was also emailed to families.
