Title of Bulletin Board: How to "BEE" in PE

Category: Behavior Incentives

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: A hive I made from crumbled confetti paper, various bee pictures representing each class, an assortment of pictures from the activity reward the class won for that particular term.

A no talking policy in our hallways at school keeps transition back to class a constant challenge. After a fun-filled PE class, students need a little incentive to harness the energy and prepare to make the quiet trek back to class. As a reward, they receive one "hash mark" for the bee board showing they had a perfect transition. At the end of each term I account for all the bee hash marks and the class with the most tallies gets an activity reward. The goal for the year was to reach the bee hive before any other class. It worked well because every class started fresh every term giving them a great chance to win for the term.

Additional Information:

My activity rewards included:

Term 1- A bumble bee pinata that was filled with stick-on mustaches and bouncy balls.

Term 2- A bumble bee craft that students were able to do as they collected bee parts in relay fashion.

Terms 3 and 4- Students choose their favorite PE activity for an extra PE period.
