Title of Bulletin Board: COUNTDOWN TO SUMMER

Category: End of School Year

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: Construction paper, clip art pictures of sports and activities, letters made on computer and cut out

The board was put up near the end of the school year to show students ways that they could be active during the summer. It is set up like an Advent calendar, with a door that opens each day to reveal something. Rectangular pieces of construction were cut, and then, a "door" was cut into each one. After they were hung, a picture of a summer sport or physical activity was stapled inside the opening of the door. Each door was stapled shut, and a number (for counting down) was stapled onto the outside of each door. Every day, during the last two weeks of school, the next door was opened and stapled open to reveal an activity. In the last open door, students were reminded to be active and safe over the summer.

I have also used this idea to count down to the Olympics, with a picture of a sport behind each door; or Winter Break with pictures of winter sports, etc.
