PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Floor Hockey

Category: Sports

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: Snowman, snowman cutouts, paper hockey stick, facts about hockey

This is my floor hockey bulliten board. Because I did floor hockey in January this year, I used a snowman holding a hockey stick, and surrounding him I used snowmen and snowflakes to give some facts about the game. The facts that I included were:

1. Floor Hockey is a modified version of ice hockey.
2. The first floor hockey games that were played in a school, was in 1962 in Battle Creek, Michigan.
3. Ice hockey was developed in Canada, the first games were played by British soldiers in 1855.
4. The first US Hockey games were played in 1895 at Johns Hopkins University.
5. The game of hockey became so popular in Canada, that in 1893, the govenor general, Baron Stanley, awarded a silver cup to the best team in Canada. We know this today as the Stanley cup, the most coveted trophy in the NHL.
6. Floor Hockey was originally called floorball.

I also included some of the key words that have to do with hockey:

Stick handling, The parts of the stick (butt, shaft, blade), Goalie, Passing, Sweep Shot, Wrist shot
