PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Jingle Balls Bulletin Board (Christmas)

Category: Holiday-Christmas/Winter

Suggested Grade Level: K-5

Materials: Various colors of construction paper, extra green construction paper, white cardstock, little bows, string,

This was actually posted on my office door as I don't have a bulletin board area in my gym. Our school was having a door decorating contest which had to contain academic content so my colleague and I participated. It could be easily adapted to a board.

Since I teach grades K-5 all of the grades participated in some way. We first had students trace their hands on green construction paper and cut them out. We drew the outline of the tree on the background paper and then covered with the hands. I found clipart pictures of the various ball sports that we teach during the year; soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball, bowling and football and copied them onto the white cardstock. We had the younger kids color these and then the older ones cut them out.

Next we punched a hole in these and placed them on the fingers of the hands with a string. For the gifts we had our older students tell us some rules of the various sports or cues to play them. We wrote these on the construction paper gifts (which we drew and cut out) to put under the tree. Some of the rules/cues were; football-hold your fingers across the laces when you throw, basketball-B.E.E.F., soccer-when you do a throw-in your feet must be on the ground, etc. We printed a basketball net from images on "google" and put a star behind it for the top of the tree. We found a picture of some carolers and printed it and in the speech bubble we wrote, "Jingle Balls, Jingle Balls, Jingle all the way, Oh what fun it is to learn the rules to play!" We placed this to the side of the tree. Last we used a die cut machine to cut out the letters JINGLE BALLS.
