Category: Safety

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: blue paper, green paper, yellow paper, striped paper, stensils, scrapbook scissors

This board was created to address the North Carolina Essential Teaching Standard, personal and consumer health (PCH) 3.4. The standard's purpose is to implement a plan to escape fire at home while avoiding smoke inhalation. The title is Fire Safety Plan with "plan" turned into a fire safety acronym. P-prevent inhaling smoke, L-learn the escape plan for your classroom or home, A-always stay low to the floor, hold one's breath, or take as few breaths as possible, N- no one should ever hide in a burning house. Designate a meeting place outside. The board also has a smoke alarm picture on the left and emphasizes importance smoke alarms in every room with regular battery testing. On the right is an example of a fire escape plan using the child's home with a meeting place outside.
