PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: What's On Your PLATE This Thanksgiving?

Category: Nutrition

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: Background paper, letter cut outs, Thanksgiving decorations, My Plate materials, pictures of Thanksgiving food, and measuring cups.

This bulletin board is great for the holiday season because it is a time when food is a big focus. I used the My Plate materials to teach the students about the food groups, moderation, and proportionality. I took the My Plate tips for each food group and paired them with a traditional Thanksgiving food. The signs are:
Focus On Fruits (Cranberry sauce)
Vary Your Veggies (Sweet potato)
Make At Least Half Your Grains Whole (Stuffing)
Go Lean With Protein (Turkey)
Get Your Calcium Rich Foods (Milk)
Moderation (what foods to limit)
Proportionality (serving sizes and measuring cups)

love this idea, about sharing helpful information in a colorful and non-judge mental way, wish I could see clearly what is written on the moderation page, but I'll use my imagination.
