PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Stallings Kangaroos

Category: Jump Rope for Heart

Suggested Grade Level: k-5

Materials: Color paper 3x4 feet- laminated, border, photo camera, printer, glue gun, tape, or velcro.

When I am starting jump rope activities related to Jump Rope for Heart, I do a jump rope pretest. Students (grades 1-5) pair up, count number of consecutive jumps of their partners and report the number to me. Older kids can record the numbers by themselves in my grade book. Students are given a goal to become a Kangaroo after 4 weeks of practice. Each grade level has different goals 1-3-, 2-50, 3-100, 4-150, and 5th graders 200 jumps without stopping. Students are given homework to practice jumping daily for 10-15 minute.
They also have jumping activities in each PE class. After 4 weeks they partner-count jumps again. The kids who achieved the required number of jumps become Kangaroos. Their photos are placed on the kangaroo board and they received a certificate of becoming a member of the "Stallings Kangaroo Club."
This bulletin board is for the specific number of jumps to be achieved by students. I have another board for young students who can be awarded for daily rope jumping.
