PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Don't be a "Couch Potato" EXERCISE!

Category: Motivation

Suggested Grade Level: K-8

Materials: Bulleton board paper, construction paper, cardboard, googly eyes, marker, tape, remote controller (or game system controller), collected empty "junk food" wrappers.

This board is a motivational board to encourage children to get up and "move around....exercise". It is a visual that children can relate to in today's world. The potato man is hanging out on the couch with his t.v. remote and has discarded junk food. It is designed to make the children think.....that is not a good way to spend my time. Exercise is a better choice.

Additional Information:

When the board was first put up the children asked questions about being a "potato head." This was a perfect opportunity to discuss the importance of getting up off the couch and doing some exercise. The students were asked to brainstorm ways they could be active over the long Holiday break. Further, each class discussed the importance of nutrition and eating healthy snacks.
