Title of Bulletin Board: Turkey Talk

Category: Nutrition

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: Construction paper

Students often think of turkey as only the bird on the Thanksgiving table! I put this board up near Thanksgiving to let them know some nutritional facts about them (as well as other facts).

I cut out turkey bodies and parts to staple together. Then, I had each turkey saying some facts about themself. Below are the facts and how different turkeys were dressed or what they were doing:

-"Ground turkey is healthier than beef in tacos, lasagne and meat loaf"
-"Turkey burgers are on the menu at Disneyland"(turkey wearing mouse ears)
-"Turkey is lower in fat than most meats"
-"There were tame turkeys in Mexico before the Pilgrims arrived in America" (turkey wearing sombrero)
-"Male turkeys are called toms and female turkeys are called hens."
-"Turkeys are more fragile than chickens" (turkey wearing "Handle with Care" sign)
-"An adult turkey is four feet long" (turkey holding tape measure)
-"Turkey has fewer calories than other meats" (turkey standing on a scale)
-"Turkeys eat nuts, seeds, insects and berries" (turkey with spider in its mouth)
-"At night, wild turkeys rest in trees" (turkey sleeping)
