PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Friendship, sharing

Category: Character Education

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: coffee filters rainbow fish book by marcus pfister, watercolor markers, wiggle eyes spray water bottle, fish pattern paper for the background and various pictures of sea life and picture of an octupus

This is used in 2nd grade health class. The teacher reads the story to the class. The story is about a fish that gives up his scales to be friends with the other fish. The story is about sharing and how giving to other people makes you feel good. The students create the fish, I as the teacher made the octopus. Our schools have themes for the month and I use this when the month is sharing, or friendship. Good character Education project.
Pattern for rainbow fish can be downloaded from internet by Googling rainbow fish template. children trace pattern on coffee filter and color with markers in random patterns. Water is sprayed on fish and the colors run beautifully together. Next class they cut them out and add wiggle eye and a scale made out of aluminum foil. they are then place on board. Grass can be made by cutting green paper and sea life can be colored or images downloaded from the internet and added.

I like that the students get a part in making this board. I like that students get to see a idea in a more visual manner. I enjoyed looking at this baord, i like the message presented and i think that students would understand the message that goes along with this story and creation.
