PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Texting Your Way to Fitness

Category: Exergaming

Suggested Grade Level: 3-8

Materials: Colored Paper, Computer with printer for lettering, Border

The purpose of this bulletin board is to help students focus on exercises to improve fitness while incorporating everyday technology with a topic they are familiar with. To make the bulletin board, make a picture of an opened cell phone out of colored paper. On each individual digit write an exercise. For example, on 8 write Curl Ups. Around the cell phone write text abbreviations, such as BRB(Be Right Back). Add a colorful border. I used Hooray, Great, Fantastic, Yes, etc. to add encouragement and emphasize that every child is a winner when they exercise. The words on the cell phone may be changed to words that emphasize being fit such as Eat Fruits, Eat Vegetables, Exercise Daily, Jog, Eat Healthy Snacks, Eat Breakfast, Get Adequate Sleep, etc.
