PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Mustangs March Across America

Category: Physical Education

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: Butcher paper, markers, pencil, foot pegs

The purpose of the map board was to incorporate Senate Bill 19 in Texas which states that each child have an average of 19 minutes of physical education a day. Since each class only gets P.E. once a week, the teachers generally take the kids for a walk around the school each day to accomplish this. I decided to make that task more fun by keeping track of the laps walked each week and charting the progress of each class. There are numerous "tourist spots" on the map, as well as some of the teacher's favorite spots in the U.S. I decided to calculate the aproximate number of laps it would take per year to "march across america" and configured it so that each lap around our school is equal to about 17 miles on the map. This way each class can keep track of their progress and make it across the U.S. by the end of the year.

Hi, I love your bulletin board. I am doing something similar calling it see America step by step. I was wondering what you used for the foot pegs to keep track of the classes on the bulletin board. Where do I buy the foot pegs? Thank you. Stay Active! Mary Pat
