Family Fit Club
Fall Brook school's Physical Education program would like to motivate our students and their family members to participate in physical activities. To do this we designed the "Family Fit Club". It costs nothing and families and students participate at home. Students and their parents must sign up (they come to school to do that in the evening). Then they choose activities that they would like to participate in together. Some suggestions are: walking, jogging, hiking, swimming, dancing, in-line skating, and tennis to name a few. We provide them with an exercise log in order to record progress. Parents must perform an exercise with their child at least 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes per exercise session. We encourage them to set realistic goals and attempt to improve gradually over weeks. Most importantly, we want our parent participants to treat their exercise session as an unbreakable appointment with their child. We encourage all participants to get medical clearance from their doctor before they start their exercise program. Newsletters are distributed to all our students every other month to give them tips on exercising, nutrition, and life style changes that will improve their health. At the end of the month the child and parent (guardian/adult) will sign their log stating that they participated in all the activities recorded in the log. All families meeting the requirements (exercising 3 times per week for 30 minutes all month) will have their names posted on the "Family Fit Club" wall in the front lobby of the school. The family will be posted on the wall under the particular month they met the requirements. The program lasts the entire school year. At the end of the year if a family participated all year in the program and brought in their workout log, they will be posted in a special area for their commitment to health. We hope this program is motivating our families to make fitness a part of their everyday lives.
