Cross Country Running Club

Children in our school are invited to participate in an after school running club. There is no fee for participation and an activity bus is available to take the students home if we take trips away from our school.

Each runner is responsible for checking him/herself in at practice. Announcements and training tips are provided and then participants warm up properly and then stretch on the blacktop, learning proper techniques. Students select a running buddy, and walk, run or jog the designated course of the day. The focus changes each week. The kids learn about interval training, running on varied terrain and run courses on the field, around the school building and the nearby community.

At the end of each practice, a running game is played. Cooperative large field games as well as some relay type activities with batons are some of the kids favorites! Currently, 72 students are participating in the Waters Landing Cross Country Team. This is my 13th season at W.L.E.S. helping the kids and parents become enthusiastic about running and fitness!

In addition, we participate in 2-4 local running events in our surrounding community on the weekends in the Fall.
