P.E. Class Spirit Stick Award

Each week during PE classes, we talk about appropriate behaviors, especially those demonstrating cooperation and teamwork. I observe classes, look at the number of discipline problems in each and at the end of the week choose a class that did the best job meeting my objectives for behavior. That class is announced over the intercom on Friday morning and awarded the spirit stick. They are allowed to take it with them wherever their teacher likes (i.e., lunch, playground, pep rallies/assemblies, etc.) all of the next week and even display the stick in the hallway outside their classroom door for all to see. The stick is returned to me at the end of the week, in time to award it to a new class. I post the pictures of each winning class on my website each week.

Variations:

Choose your own name for the award that would match your school mascot.

Teaching Suggestions/Tips:

Be sure to include/inform your classroom teachers before you begin the spirit stick program so they will understand and encourage students to win!
