Tribute to the Summer Olympics
As part of an annual event called "games week", teachers at St. Cyril School recently planned an afternoon event entitled, "Tribute to the Summer Olympics". The purpose of this event was to enhance each student's knowledge of the Olympic games by providing them with meaningful activities. Before the actual event each class was chosen to represent a different country. Students were given an opportunity to learn about that country in their classroom. Additionally each class created a flag that represented their country. On the day of the event, students took part in an opening ceremony. These ceremonies included a flag parade, torch run, and Olympic oath. At the conclusion of these preliminary exercises, students were provided with a variety of events to participate. These events included the standing broad jump, running long jump, softball throw (for shot put), Frisbee throw (for discus), and an obstacle course.
