Name of Best Practice: Movement University

Rationale/Purpose of Event: To promote movement knowledge and competency. Graduates must be able to demonstrate knowledge of movement concepts and perform various locomotor skills.

Suggested Grade Level: 2nd

Materials Needed: digital camera, cap and gown

Movement University

Second graders in our building have the opportunity to "graduate" from Movement University. To graduate they must be able to perform a variety of locomotor skills and must know at least two describing words for the following movement concepts.

Speed

Direction

Locomotors (Ways to Travel)

Levels

Pathways

ex. Pathways - straight, curved, zig zag

Upon "graduation" students get their picture taken in a cap and gown and placed in the gym and a "diploma" to take home.
