Fitness Center Field Trip

At Brooke High School in Wellsburg, West Virginia the fitness center field trip begins with physical education teacher Lynn Dodd making arrangements with the local fitness center. Parental permission slips are required for all students attending the trip.

Once at the center one of the fitness instructors presents a lecture and demonstration on the components of fitness. At the conclusion of the lecture students are taken on a tour of the facilities and are given basic instructions on the various equipment. For the following two hours, students lift weights (free and machines), utilize the cardiovascular machines, swim in the pool, play basketball, or jog on the indoor track.

Back at school students are taken to the writing lab, where the lab instructor teaches the students how to write a thank you letter. Letters are written to the lecturer, fitness administrator, board of education, and the bus driver. The letters are all sent to the respective parties.
