Are you aware of any grants available to provide 30 pedometers for use by my students? I would love to get some good quality pedometers and figure I will need to spend about $20 each. This kind of money is not available in our budget!
Thanks.
NEW-LIFESTYLES offers a Grant Second Chance Sweepstakes, which is a great way to try and win a class set of pedometers. You can send NEW-LIFESTYLES a losing (or winning) grant proposal that you've written for another funding competition and re-use it to enter to win a classroom set of 15, 30, or 50 pedometers the easy way. We’ll choose a first, second, and third place winner quarterly on January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1. Rules for eligibility and all of the details can be found at www.new-lifestyles.com/2ndchance.
It's also good to know that you can actually get the "gold standard" of pedometers--the SW-200 DIGI-WALKER from NEW-LIFESTYLES for less than $20! And even in yellow, a great color for students!
Also, here are a few grant options I’ve found in addition to the PEP grants that promote healthy lifestyles and physical activity: General Mills offers grants every year -- although the deadline for 2006 is already past, who's to say that you can't prepare for next year. http://www.generalmills.com/corporate/commitment/champions.aspx
This is a great website that lists all kinds of health & physical activity/school related grants: http://www.healthinschools.org/grants/alerts.asp
The Healthy Youth Funding Database (HY-FUND) contains active information about funding opportunities (both from federal agencies and the private sector) for adolescent and school health programs. www.cdc.gov/HealthyYouth/funding/index.htm
And don't forget to look locally in your own newspaper! Local hospital corporations and other organizations are dedicating dollars to fight the childhood obesity epidemic by promoting physical activity and nutrition.
Hope this helps!
