Pedometers

My school has a large field that students can walk/jog around. I realized that students can tap their pedometer with their hand resulting in a much higher count than they deserve. Is this true on all pedometers? If so, how can it be prevented?

Yes, that would be true of all pedometers, although there would be no noise feedback (clicking sound) from the NL-series pedometers. They are silent, i.e., they make no clicking noise. Part of the reason that the kids continue to shake the simple spring-levered pedometers is that they can hear that clicking so that tells them that "steps" are being tallied. Therefore, that noise is their reinforcement to continue shaking the pedometer.
