Use a good shovel (offset handled ones may be helpful)
Wear layered clothing while shoveling
Take breaks and drink fluids--don't try to be a superperson and do it all at once
Bend your legs to pick up and place the snow as opposed to your back
Take small amounts of snow on each shovel full
Maintain a healthy heart through exercise and diet so you can shovel snow more easily
Give yourself plenty of time to complete the job
