Don't eat a meal right before a workout, because your body will send blood to your muscles rather than your stomach - this interrupts digestion. It is better to exercise 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours after a large meal.
ALWAYS eat breakfast. If you exercise first-thing in the morning, drink a small glass of juice or eat a piece of toast with a fresh fruit spread before your workout, then eat a regular meal.
If you choose to exercise late in the day, make breakfast and lunch your "big" meals.
