Date: November 23, 2005 Thanks so much for your interest in this years PE Central Challenge. The good news is that we will be offering the PE Central Challenge. The bad news is that we cannot offer it for free. We feel badly about this development, but our efforts to secure a sponsor have been unsuccessful. We didn't like the option of canceling the Challenge as it is too valuable not to offer. We also didn't want to charge participants the full price of purchasing pins at $1.00 each so we were able to compromise with a solution that will allow teachers to register for $15.00 which allows you to reserve 30 award pins and purchase additional pins at .85 cents a piece (a 15% discount). More details about the program are explained next.
2006 PE Central Challenge Registration Description and Details
Registration Date: 12:00 (Noon EST), Tuesday, November 1, 2005 The PE Central Challenge will essentially work the same way it has for the past 7 years. The challenge tasks will remain the same. 30,000 pins will be available to reserve starting on Nov. 1, 2005. The major change is during registration. Interested teachers will pay a $15.00 registration fee using a credit card (no PO's or checks accepted-electronic receipts will be sent for reimbursement purposes). This will allow teachers to reserve 30 award pins (this equates to 50 cents a pin) along with additional benefits (see below). As has been done in the past, teachers will return in March 2006 to report the exact number of gold, silver, and bronze pins their kids earned. Additional pins (above the 30 already purchased) for registered teachers will be discounted 15% to .85 cents a piece. Un-registered teachers can pay $1.00 each for every pin purchased or they can award free certificates available on the Challenge web site. The PE Central Challenge web site will be available to everyone as it has in the past.
PE Central Challenge Registration Benefits:
1. 30 award pins per teacher (this equates to 50 cents a piece) Proceeds from the registration fee will go to paying for the pins and the labor and cost of shipping the pins.
We are disappointed we cannot continue to provide this wonderful program to you free of charge. We were fortunate for seven years to offer the program for free. We are thankful to our past sponsors. We will continue to seek external funding to support this program in hopes of returning it back to its free version. In the meantime thanks for understanding as we move forward.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me (540-953-1043 in VA or via email at pec@pecentral.org). I am looking forward to working with all teachers who choose to participate in the PE Central Challenge in 2006 (and beyond). Remember, registration begins on Nov. 1, 2005 and will close after the 30,000 pins are reserved.
Sincerely,
Mark Manross
