News, Info, Resources New Program: The goal of The Walking Heart to Heart Program is to connect kids from across the country using walking and letter writing (pen pals) to increase physical fitness, share common goals and create friendships. Walking Heart to Heart is FREE! No incentives or prizes are given or awarded. We want to show how doing a good thing for a good purpose is the best incentive of all. The idea is to increase fitness levels, make fitness fun and meaningful and to promote life skills such as goal setting, personal best, friendship, altruism, and human kindness. Now there's a way to make walking and exercise fun and meaningful and to showcase how physical education can build bridges to the classroom for increased student performance. The Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools (OSDFS) is pleased to announce that Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) grant competition opens on February 15, 2008 and closes on March 24, 2008. Take this free survey to help a graduate student at Teachers College, Columbia University (New York) complete her dissertation. The survey is for those who teach at the secondary (6th-12th grade) level in physical education. The study will provide information to professionals about technology use and teachers' attitudes about using technology. The survey is completely anonymous- no information that identifies individual teachers or schools is needed. Will take about 10 minutes to complete. SHI and PECAT Workshops Available from the CDC: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH), has created the DASH Training Network, or “D-Train,” a national cadre of master trainers to provide workshops on how to use DASH school health tools.
