Name of Activity:
Volleyball Underhand Serve Checklist
Purpose of Activity:To assess the student's abiltiy to underhand serve a volleyball trainer over a net and the presence of the critical elements of the skill.
Suggested Grade Level:4-6
Materials Needed:Volleyball net, volleyball trainer balls, critical elements check list (provided below).
Time Needed to Complete:30-60 minutes.
Description of Idea
Each student makes five attempts to serve underhand over volleyball net. The student may position himself anywhere on the right half of the volleyball court The teacher will use the critical elements check list to record the presence of the following critical elements of the underhand volleyball serve using tally marks:
- Face target
- Swing arm back
- Step with opposite foot
- Contact with heel of hand
- Hit ball off hand (don’t toss)
- Follow through towards target
- Ball clears net
