Week 37: May 18-22, 1998

IA Name: Fitness Tag

Grade Level: 3-5

Equipment: Cones to mark off activity area; List of exercise's or pictures of exercises; any other pertinent materials based on your exercises

Directions:

Have students spread out in general space. Have 2/4 students be the taggers. On the teachers signal the activity starts with the taggers trying to tag the "runners". When tagged the student goes to the side of the playing area where the students find the exercises are posted. They are to complete the following:

the first time out 1 jumping jack, 1 situp, 1 pushup.
the second time out they do 2 jumping jacks, 2 situps, 2 pushups.
the third time out 3 jumping jacks, 3 situps, 3 pushups, etc., etc.

After they complete the activities make sure they jump right back into the tag game. The activities you have them do are up to you, and that is where your poster and list of exercises can come in to play. Try to keep it simple so the students can remember what it is they have to do.

Variations:

Have more students be taggers, possibly up to have all the kids taggers so any time you are tagged you must move to the side to do the above mentioned activities.

Be creative with your activities. Maybe some of the following: crunches; step-ups; line/rope jumps (over and back); single jump rope; dribble a ball so many times; bicep curl with weight; dyna band curl; hula hoops; push up tag with a partnerÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ

If you want to do this with older students (6-8) just have them do more of the activites (5-10)
