Station Name: Bronco Scooter Scramble

Type of Activity : Race

Station Leaders – due to lack of Space None- the children can assist you in the case of need.

CAUTION : PROPER USE OF SCOOTER – NO STANDING/JUMPING ONTO SCOOTER. TO SIT ON SCOOTER, CHILDREN NEED TO GO AROUND TO ITS FRONT, THEN SIT ON IT, WITH BOTTOM IN MIDDLE AND HOLDING ONTO THE SCOOTER EDGE WITH HANDS.

Equipment Needed:

Ø Waiting line & Starting line FLASH CARDS

Ø Waiting line & Starting line TAPE/white velcro

Ø Waiting line cone markers – B Y R G

Ø Starting line cone markers – B Y R G

Ø 4 Scooters - B Y R G

Ø 4 gates (one of each colour - B Y R G)

Ø 4 Polyspots /pathway cards (one of each colour - B Y R G ) –parking area for scooter

Ø 4 quoits (one of each colour - - B Y R G)

Ø 4 coloured beanbags (one of each colour - - B Y R G)

Ø 4 cone markers at end of course ( one of each colour - B Y R G

Ø 4 x3 tyres tyres (three of each colour - - B Y R G)

Activity :

Children at starting line are seated on scooter. On signal they are to pull themselves through the gate, up to the PARKING SPOT where they park their scooter and turn it around (so that it will be ready on the return section of the challenge), run up to tires and step RLR, up to quoit to pick up beanbag, run around the end cone, replace beanbag on quoit, step through tires LRL, then GO AROUND THE SCOOTER and sit safely on it, pull themselves through the gate up to the starting/finishing line. They are to turn the scooter again (to prepare it for next race), and stand on the starting/finish line with one hand up.

Organisation:

Children are SEATED lined up at in their house colours behind the waiting line (white velcro).

Teachers : After checking that the scooters/goates/quoits/beanbags have been returned to the original line and checking with the Station Leaders that it is ok to go ahead, you can start.

Directions : On signal "The person in front move down to the line" the child at the front of each house moves down to the starting line and sits on the scooter with feet on starting line.

On signal, "Are you ready sitting down safely"…

"Look at your gate and tires"…

"Go"…

When each race is completed and the children reach the start /finish line, the teacher need to check how many champions have completed the challenge.

“Let us see how many champions we have “ – and they kids who have just done the race, do a “hip hip hurrah !

Regarding the race : all you have to ensure is that there is a child from each house colour on the starting line. If there is a child missing, just have the next in line step in. (if children are absent or you have a class of 21/22)
