New Jersey
Activity: Crossing the Delaware
Equipment: 8-10 long jump ropes or long cord set cord up as shores of a river with some narrow and some wide places.
Formation: if enough room, students can be scattered. If not enough room, students must pair up and take turns.
Students must go in one direction to cross the Delaware river which runs between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. After crossing the Delaware, walk along the Pennsylvania shore and back to the New Jersey side. Students may run and jump the river. They must be sure that no one is in their way. If a student touches the water with a shoe, they must sit on the Pennsylvania shore, take off their shoe and sock, shake out the water, then put the shoe and sock back on. Continue The shoe is the only thing that comes off!! If they fall in the water, sit on the shore to dry off; then, continue.
