PE Central

Fielding a Flyball

Suggested Grade Level: 9-12

Watch the ball come off of the bat.

Usually your first step should be "back" so you can stay behind the baseball.

Stay behind the baseball and as you are getting ready to catch the ball you should be moving forward to make a throw back into the infield. (If someone is on base waiting to tag up.)

Catch the ball using two hands. Your glove hand should catch the ball and your throwing hand should help squeeze the glove and keep the ball in.

Always try to catch the ball above your head and on your throwing side to ensure a quicker throw into the infield.
