Name of Activity: Sanitize Me Warm Up Tag

Suggested Grade Level: K-2

Materials Needed: 4 hula hoops, 8 cones, optional: 2 half length noodles

Description of Idea

Students are scattered throughout the activity area. Choose two taggers (Mr. Germ and Ms. Virus). Have kids walk in general space with the two taggers trying to tag them. If tagged students need to do three things to become free again:

1. Cough into your elbow.
2. Sneeze into your elbow.
3. Go to the sink and wash hands properly.

The teacher demonstrates proper hand washing at the sink (simulate using a Hula Hoop) before the activity begins. Turn on faucets (2 cones), wet hands, pump 2 times for soap (noodle or pretend), then rub hands together while singing Happy Birthday to yourself or the ABC song. Then rejoin the activity.
