Name of Activity: Components of Fitness

Purpose of Activity: To develop a plan to help students increase their fitness levels using the Presidential Fitness Test as a catlyst.

Suggested Grade Level: 6-8

Materials Needed: Pencils, Worksheet (see below).

Description of Idea

Students will be creating their own program in order to improve their own fitness level. Their scores will be documented on their plan. While they are in their squads, students will create their own fitness plan and reflect on the importance of fitness testing.

When completing, students will write down activities (besides the fitness testing activities) that would help them improve on their fitness level. Explain to the students they need to think of other physical activities that would help them and they need to write down how long they would do that activity or how many.

Students will be grouped into two or three in order to help each other create ideas as well as aid each other.

This lesson relates to national standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

Students are applying their knowledge and performance to the principles of fitness and self monitoring improvements

Below is the worksheet that would be handed out. Feel free to copy and paste into a Word document.
