![]() Name of Activity: Do You Wish You Never Started Smoking?
Purpose of Activity: For students to realize that most smokers wish they had never started smoking. If this is the case, we can presume that starting to smoke is a bad decision. Suggested Grade Level: 6-8 Description of Idea Assign each student to ask a smoker (who has been smoking for at least 10 years) if they wish they never started smoking. When the class returns the next day, put the results on the board. Write the number of people who said they wish they had never started on one side of the board and the number of people who said they are glad they started smoking on the other side. The most likely outcome is the majority of people who have been smoking at least 10 years will say they wish they had never started smoking. Assessment Ideas: Ask students to respond to the following questions: 1) Why did your teacher want you to ask someone who has been smoking at least 10 years? (It takes a while until people really feel the negative effects.) 2) How does this activity help with your decision making process regarding beginning to smoke cigarettes? (We can learn from the mistakes of others.) |
