Name of Activity: First Grade PE Peer-Throwing Assessment Checklist Rubric

Purpose of Activity: To see if students are stepping with the opposite foot when throwing underhand.

Prerequisites: Several lessons should have been completed that focused on properly stepping with the opposite foot when throwing underhand.

Suggested Grade Level: 1-2

Materials Needed: Object/s to throw and targets of your choice.

Description of Idea

The following assessment was used as part of several throwing stations that I set up to have the children practice throwing at targets using the underhand throwing motion. I was focusing on the cue "stepping with the opposite foot." The kids were in pairs with one child having a crayon or a writing utensil. If their partner stepped with the opposite foot then they put an X over the foot in the handout.

If you do not feel your students can do this you can do this as a teacher as they come through the stations.

This is a really great idea and I feel that it is truly the one hardest component to get students to do. Thank you!
I always have them step out of a hoop or on a dot, but now they can combine my lesson with the assessment piece.
I will let you know how it goes.
