Variations:

After students have learned the 'traditional' Macarena and the Referee Dance, they could be asked to create a new dance created using a theme of their own choice. They would need to create hand gestures and/or non-locomotor movement which relate to their chosen theme.

Assessment Ideas:

Students could be asked to write down the gestures used in their dance and/or could be asked to teach their dance to others in the class with clear explanations of their chosen movements.

Teaching Suggestions:

When teaching the younger students, do the dance without changing to the 4 walls at first. Have them do a jump in place instead of the turn.

Adaptations for Students with Disabilities:

Depending on the disabilities students could create hand, arm or head gestures to go with this dance.
