Name of Activity: Diamond Canyon Motor Speedway

Purpose of Activity: To get kids practicing locomotor skills as a warm up.

Prerequisites: The students just need to know how to perform several locomotor movements. We do these types of movements a lot, so most of the students are pretty good at them.

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials Needed: projection screen, smartboard or tv and a computer to show the powerpoint.

Description of Idea

I call it the "Cars warm up". I play the song "Life is a Highway" from the Cars movie and I show the Powerpoint up on the screen. The kids move around the Diamond Canyon Motor Speedway (gym) and do what each Cars character is asking the students to do on the screen. I didn't set the powerpoint to predetermined times yet, so this one I manually change slides.

Adaptations for Students with Disabilities:

Any of the movements can be adapted or replaced. If a special needs student can't perform a specific movement, they are encouraged to do a movement that they are capable of doing. They have great para-professionals who really do a great job of working with them.
