Name of Activity: Mirror Me

Suggested Grade Level: all

Materials Needed: Scarves or ribbons (but can also be done without any equipment or other types of equipment), instrumental music

Description of Idea

Students pair up with at least one scarf each (two works best).

One student is A, the other is B (you can also give them category names like animals, fruits, etc.).

Explain that when the music begins the student in each group that was designated as A will begin to move around with their scarf in a way that student B can copy or follow (they are the mirror).

After a short time, the teacher tells the students to switch so that B shows A what to do. Continue going back and fourth until the song ends.

Instrumental music that is relaxing works really well with this activity and helps students to concentrate more on the activity.

Variations:

-vary tempo of music to increase physical activity intensity levels
-try a variety of equipment
-introduce/utilize directions, pathways, levels, different locomotor skills, effort, relationships, etc.
