![]() Name of Activity: Occupy the Gym Floor
Purpose of Activity: * To encourage students to be active. * To cross the body midline with movements on a specific rhythm. * To perform a 64-count line dance. Prerequisites: To have practiced the grapevine step and angle step. Suggested Grade Level: 6-8 Materials Needed: CD Player, suggested music: "Kidz Bop 18 - Evacuate the Dancefloor" Recommended music: Kidz Bop 18 - Evacuate the Dancefloor Beginning dance formation: Staggered Rows Description of Idea Each "step" is 8 counts. The steps will be repeated five times throughout the song. There is a 16-count intro to the song. Begin dancing when the singing starts. 1. Angle Step: 2. Jump Step: 3. Punch Step: 4. Marching Step: 5. Grapevine Step: 6. Turn Step: 7. Stop Step: 8. Down Step: After completing these eight steps described above, repeat five times. Assessment Ideas: Challenge older students to cue the dance as the class performs it. Adaptations for Students with Disabilities: On the Turn Step, have students do a basic 8 count turn. |
