Name of Activity: Badminton Juggling

Purpose of Activity: To teach juggling skills and badminton skills while at the same time working on hand-eye coordination and striking with a racket.

Prerequisites: Students should understand what juggling is as well as should have had some practice hitting a single birdie with a badminton racket.

Suggested Grade Level: 4 and up

Materials Needed: 1 Badminton racket per student, 2-3 Birdies per student, music

Description of Idea

Each student will have a badminton racket and 2 birdies to start. While the music is on students must try to "Juggle" the 2 birdies by hitting them with the racket and keeping them in the air at the same time. They start by hitting one birdie in the air, then the other and then alternating between the 2 birdies.

To make the activity more difficult, give the students who are able to keep 2 birdies in the air a 3rd birdie.

For another variation of the activity, let students work with a partner using 2-3 birdies.

Variations:

For any kids having a tough time, attach a birdie to their racket with a piece of fishing line so that they never actually "lose" their birdie (s).
