Name of Activity: Color Bounce
Purpose of Activity: To reinforce forward dribbling and color mixing.
Prerequisites: * Students should be able to identify primary and secondary colors. * The students should have an understanding of bouncing-catching and dribbling in place.
Suggested Grade Level: K-2
Materials Needed: 6 pieces of construction paper (2 each of purple, orange and green), 24 balls (8 each of blue, red and yellow)
Description of Idea Ask a classroom teacher to read one of the following short books prior to the physical education class, to reinforce color mixing: •White Rabbit’s Color Book •Mouse Paint •Pete the Cat: I Love my White Shoes Review dribbling and color mixing cues. Hang a piece of construction paper (two each of purple, orange and green) randomly on the walls of the activity area. Hand one ball to each student and ask them to find a personal space. When the music starts, students dribble a ball in their personal space (switching right and left hand dribbling). When the music stops, the teacher calls out one of the following colors: orange, purple or green. Each student takes their ball and runs to the piece of construction paper that corresponds to the color mixing of their ball. For example, if the student has a yellow ball, they can either run to the green or orange piece of construction paper. Students have to switch balls with another student and the game continues.
Variations: Older students can dribble in general space as they move to their piece of construction paper.
Assessment Ideas: Observing students to ensure that they are correctly following dribbling cues and color mixing.
