Name of Activity: King and Queen of the Jewels

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials Needed: 4 hula hoops, 4 bean bags

Description of Idea

Set up four hula hoops in each corner of your activity area with one bean bag in each (make sure there is room around each side of the hula hoops for the students to move around them in a safe manner). Choose 4 students to be either the King or Queen of the jewels (i.e., the bean bags).

The kings and queens must guard the hula hoop by standing on the outside of the hoop. The rest of the class move around to the hula hoops and try to steal the bean bags (or the jewels). The Kings and Queens try to tag the thief.

If the thief is tagged, they must move to the next hula hoop. If the thief successfully steals the bean bag without being tagged, they will become the new King or Queen of the jewels. The old King or Queen will join the rest of the class and try to steal the other jewels.

Teaching Suggestions:

Encourage students to tag gently.

Make sure there is plenty of room around the hula hoops.
