Suggested Grade Level: 3rd and Up Materials Needed: Cones for general space boundaries, foam balls for taggers Description of Idea Children are in scattered formation within the playing area. The identified chasers will each have a foam ball. On the signal they chase (i.e., using locomotor movements such as walking, sliding, skipping, etc.) the other students. When someone is tagged, they must freeze immediately and reach their hands above their head. To get unfrozen free runners must approach the frozen player from the front and they must jump and do a "high ten" by slapping their hands together at the tops of their jump. It is much like athletes do when they score a touchdown or dunk a basketball. Teaching Suggestions: Practice "high tenning" with a partner before playing. Different sized students make this quite a challenge.
Make sure it is a good quality "high ten." Many students will completely miss when they do this. You should here a "slap in unison." If you don't they have to do it again until they get it correct. |
